Granite vs Teflon vs Ceramic Cookware: Which Should You Choose?

by Granova on Oct 16, 2026
Granite, Teflon and ceramic frying pans side by side

Shopping for new cookware in Egypt usually comes down to three names: granite, Teflon and ceramic. All three are called Non-Stick, but they behave very differently after a few months of real daily cooking. Here's a clear, honest comparison to help you choose.

What is granite cookware?

Granite cookware isn't solid stone. It's usually an aluminum body finished with a multi-layer Non-Stick coating reinforced with mineral particles. Those particles give it the speckled stone look and make the surface tougher against daily wear.

What is Teflon cookware?

"Teflon" is the popular name for the classic PTFE Non-Stick coating. It's very slippery when new, but in budget pans it's often a thin layer that scratches easily with metal utensils and wears faster with high heat.

What is ceramic cookware?

Ceramic cookware uses a smooth, mineral-based coating that looks like a glaze. It releases food beautifully at first, but its non-stick performance tends to fade sooner with daily use, especially with high heat and harsh cleaning.

Quick comparison

Granite Teflon Ceramic
Non-stick when new Excellent Excellent Excellent
Non-stick after months of use Lasts longer Drops with wear Drops fastest
Scratch resistance High Low to medium Medium
Heat distribution Even (thick aluminum body) Depends on the base Depends on the base
Look Natural stone finish Plain black Bright colors

Which one should you choose?

  • Granite: if you cook every day (frying, sautéing, rice and long simmering) and want cookware that keeps its performance and look for longer.
  • Teflon: if you need a low-cost pan for occasional, light cooking.
  • Ceramic: if you love its colors and mostly cook on low heat, accepting it may need replacing sooner.

Whatever you choose, care is the secret

Any Non-Stick surface lasts longer with low-to-medium heat, wooden or silicone utensils and gentle hand-washing. Read our guide: How to Keep Your Non-Stick Pan Like New.
